Transition Learning and Development Statements - Professional Development

The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD) has contracted Community Child Care's Resource and Development Unit as the Professional Support Coordinator for Victoria to develop and deliver a professional development session on the VEYLDF Transition Learning and Development Statements.

82 sessions around Victoria will be delivered in Term 3 2010.

Who should attend?

The sessions are designed for educators working with children in their year prior to starting school (e.g. Kindergarten Teachers, LDC & FDC educators) and educators and teachers working with children in their first year at school (e.g. Prep Teachers and OSHC educators) 

Session Content

Participants will be invited to reflect on their experience with the transition process and statements - both as writers and as readers and will be given opportunities to talk about benefits and challenges.

The sessions will explore:

  • Purpose of the Transition Learning and Development Statement
  • Assessment of Children's Learning - What is it?
  • Documentation into Assessment - How do we make children's learning visible?
  • Key Components of Learning
  • Collaborations in assessment - collaborating with children, families and other professionals
  • Collaboration with children, families, and other professional is critical in all meaningful assessment
  • Effective Writing - What does this look like in practice?
