DEECD Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework Professional Support Program

The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD) has contracted Community Child Care’s Resource and Development Unit (RDU) as the Professional Support Coordinator for Victoria, to develop and deliver a professional development program for early childhood professionals working with children from birth to eight years on the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework.

The majority of sessions are now fully booked. We will be announcing an additional 40 sessions (Module 1 to 4) to run in Term 1 & 2 2011. The location of these session will be based on locations with highest unmet demand taken from our waiting lists. We are hoping to announce the additional sessions in October. Services will be notified by DEECD as soon as the  sessions are on the website and available for registration.

DEECD are in the process of developing online training for each of the four modules in the series. Module 1 will be available very soon on DEECD’s website www.education.vic.gov.au

Professional Development Program

Professional Development on the Victorian Framework will be delivered in four modules. Each module of the professional development will include an opportunity for professionals to:
•    Consider the underpinning theory of the concept
•    Explore their own views and assumptions
•    Reflect on the values and expectations of the children and families in their setting
Topics included in the modules will include getting started with the Victorian and National Frameworks, reflective practice, collaborative practice, principles, practices and outcomes, and curriculum decision making.

Modules are designed to be attended in sequence and build on learnings from the previous module. As such, participants would benefit from attending all four modules.

Module 1. Leading the Way: Reflecting on the Frameworks

Module 2. Working Together: Collaborative Practice Principles

Module 3. Decision Making: Effective Practice Principles

Module 4. Documenting and Assessing: Engaging with the Outcomes

Sessions will commence in Term 2, 2010 and be completed by Term 2, 2011. All four modules will be delivered across the state including metropolitan, outer Melbourne and rural areas.

Who should attend the professional support sessions?

The content and delivery of these sessions is designed for qualified educators who have been identified as pedagogical leaders in their service.  The sessions are designed to provide participants with the necessary skills and tools to facilitate discussion and assist in leading their staff teams through the frameworks.

All Early Childhood professionals as described in the VEYLDF are invited to attend, e.g. Early Childhood Educators working with children from birth to 8 years.

In order to provide access to as many services as possible, in the first instance, places will be limited to two participants per service. Additional places will be available if the sessions do not reach capacity.

Fees

$25.00 per head for attending single modules
$80.00 per head in total for attending all 4 modules
