EYLF & VEYLDF
Belonging Being & Becoming The Early Years Framework for Australia (EYLF)
The EYLF is a national framework for working with children birth – 5 years. Implementation of the EYLF began in July 2009. At this introductory stage, early childhood services are expected to familiarise themselves with the Early Years Learning Framework and map their existing practice against the principles and practice outlined in the Framework. It is expected that, following a period of familiarisation, each early childhood service will develop their own strategy to implement the Framework, taking their own unique context into consideration.

The VEYLDF is a state framework for working with children birth – 8
years. It was released in November 2009. The VEYDLF advances children’s
learning and development by early childhood professionals working
together, and with families, to achieve common outcomes for children.
The VEYLDF is for all professionals who work with children from birth
to eight years including all early childhood practitioners who work
directly with children in early childhood settings, school teachers,
maternal and child health nurses, inclusion support facilitators and a
range of other professionals working in community and health services
such as play therapists and family support workers.

Summary
These two frameworks provide a foundation for educators in Victorian
Children’s Services in their work supporting children’s learning and
development. The two documents are companion documents that complement
each other and explore the same 5 learning outcomes for children.
Educators in Victoria will need to work with both frameworks.
